We are thrilled to announce and highlight Sebago’s largest group of summer interns, representing a diversity of schools and majors.
Please join us in welcoming our first intern, Zack Jackson, who is a recent graduate from the University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering and a focus on Transportation Engineering.
When asked why he chose this major, Zack responded, “the idea of being able to design things and call them my own is very interesting to me.”
Zack is a big fan of being outdoors and going to car shows. We are excited to have him join us this summer! Read more about his experience and hobbies below.
Where do you go to school?
I graduated from the University of Maine in May of 2022 but will be returning in the fall to finish up 3 more classes.
What are you studying and why did you choose this major?
I am studying Civil Engineering, and hope to obtain a focus in Transportation Engineering. I chose this major because my great uncle was also an engineer, and the idea of being able to design things and call them my own is very interesting to me.
What has been your favorite class so far and why?
My favorite class so far was “Pavement Design” at UMaine. I thought all of the requirements and methods used to design a good pavement surface, whether asphalt or concrete, were very interesting.
What three traits define you?
- Determined
- Loyal
- Compassionate
What are your hobbies?
I am a car person, and enjoy going to car shows, meets, and other activities, as well as working on cars, which is only sometimes enjoyable…
What inspired you to intern with Sebago Technics and what do you hope to learn from your internship?
I heard good things about the company from a professor, and enjoyed what I learned from my interview at the job fair. I hope to learn and gain office and field experiences that will give me a basis for the rest of my career.
What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?
I love kayaking and paddleboarding as well as boating around the lake. I also enjoy wakeboarding when I get the chance. Being outside is my favorite place to be.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Alaska, or another place far north in the wintertime so I can see the Northern Lights overhead. I saw them on the horizon in northern Maine last fall, but I would love to see them overhead. At the end of this summer, I plan to travel and see the national parks in the Western U.S.
What do you look forward to in your career?
I look forward to getting an official job once I am out of school and hope to obtain my FE and PE. I am excited to meet new people and coworkers and make new friends along the way.
