Employee-Owner Spotlight | Cole Peters | Environmental Services Manager

It is our pleasure to announce that Cole Peters has joined our team as our Environmental Services Manager.  Mr. Peters is a well-recognized, experienced, environmental professional who has had his own firms and worked for large national and regional consulting firms.  He is a Certified Geologist and Professional Wetlands Scientist.  He is experienced in large scale environmental projects including utility corridors and projects, wind/solar power development, highway projects, wetlands delineations/mitigation, commercial projects, etc.  Cole has a great understanding and reputation in many facets of environmental permitting and will be a great resource to our project teams and clients. 


Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived in throughout your life?

Grew up in Lewistown, PA (near Penn State) and lived in RI, Sandwich, MA (Cape Cod), and here in Maine for past 35 years.

Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?

Kettle Cove, Small Point Beach, Bog Pond (Waterford), Cobscook Bay State Park.

What three traits define you?

Curious, deliberative, like a good playful prank.  

What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?

Paperboy – be on time (dependable) and treat the customer right.

What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?

Diversity – being on an interdisciplinary team (scientists/engineers/architects/lawyers, etc.) and working for variety of clients to accomplish an outcome meeting a variety of requirements (project, regulator, society, environment).

What was your journey like to get where you are?

After completing MS degree and year of follow-up research, I worked a year for DEP (wetlands protection) in MA and then began consulting career for a few years with an up & coming environmental firm in MA that lead me to Maine to be a partner in a small consulting firm to thereafter work for several bigger companies south of Augusta.  It’s been kind of a straight line with stops along the way, and now looking back, I’m pleased to apply schooling and training I pursued from being interested as a child in the outdoors and the environment .

What are your hobbies outside the office?

Carpentry, reading, travel, checking out museums, camping, canoeing, hunting/fishing, and XC skiing.

What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?

Good reputation for Maine-based work at an extraordinary employee-owned business.

Favorite thing to do in Maine?

Exploring new places off the beaten track.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Shellfish appetizers with Cobb Salad, a good wine, and multi-berry pie, al mode of course with sprinkles…. 😉

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

Otter – need a mix of water & land, omnivore, and like to have fun!

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

Scandinavia down to Spain (Arctic to Mediterranean with lots in between).

Favorite Holiday and why?

Thanksgiving – good food, company, and conversations!

What is the best concert you attended?

3 Rivers Stadium Pittsburgh: Boz Scaggs, Fleetwood Mac, and the Eagles.

What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?

Feasting on cookout food (i.e. burgers/BBQ/lobster/clams/corn-on-cob, etc.) after a hike/paddle/day at the beach/ball game to then sit around a fire telling/hearing stories!

Being recognized as a contributor to value that is dynamic, bigger and beyond myself.
