Auburn, Maine
A unique urban redevelopment mixed-use project providing much-needed downtown living opportunities and a walkable neighborhood for Auburn residents.
Sixty-Two Spring Street is designed to occupy an urban site on the Spring Street corridor in Auburn with a creative building and site design. The first floor of the building accommodates the resident lobby with access to the upper floors, and a small retail area facing Spring Street. On-site parking is provided behind the retail space and partially below the building’s upper floors, not visible from the public streetscape viewshed.
A generous pedestrian plaza is situated between the building entry and the adjacent, historic Engine House, accommodating an outdoor dining terrace envisioned as the adaptive reuse of the historic building. Creative design solutions were developed to accommodate commercial service deliveries to residents as well as a resident loading/unloading area. The Spring Street edge of the project features reconstructed public sidewalks, street trees, on-street parking spaces and pedestrian seating areas.
