Sebago Technics transformed the Narragansett School Playground in Gorham, Maine, delivering a comprehensive design solution that reimagines early childhood outdoor play spaces. Our multidisciplinary approach blended collaborative planning, inclusive design principles, and thoughtful landscape architecture to create an engaging, developmentally supportive environment for young learners.
Working closely with school administrators, an early childcare specialist, and the Town Facilities Director, our team developed a nuanced program specifically tailored to the newly expanded Pre-K program. The design prioritizes nature-based play experiences that intentionally support children’s developmental needs, with a particular emphasis on fostering fine motor skill development, sensory exploration, and universal accessibility. By integrating carefully selected play elements such as accessible swing-sets, musical play areas, outdoor kitchen stations, and naturalistic play zones, we created a dynamic landscape that encourages creative and physical exploration.
The project, completed in the Summer of 2024, showcases Sebago Technics’ commitment to holistic design, featuring strategically placed play infrastructure including a climbing mound with log scramble, a stage platform, and richly textured landscape areas populated with native trees and shrubs. Each design element was meticulously considered to provide a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for 4 to 6-year-old children, reflecting our firm’s dedication to creating meaningful outdoor spaces that support learning, growth, and joyful play.
