Another great addition to our Sebago Team!
Say “Hi” 👋 to Joshua Franklin – our newest Landscape Designer!
Mr. Franklin is a creative and detail-oriented designer. He enjoys exploring innovative design solutions with aesthetic appeal and functionality. Joshua received a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. His prior experience in land planning, site illustration, and project branding for a consulting firm in Maryland, coupled with his fun personality and positive attitude, will serve him well in his new role.
Joshua recently relocated to Portland after spending nearly a year in France, so please join us in giving him a warm welcome to Maine! We are excited to have him on our team as we continue to shape New England, together.
Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived in throughout your life?
I was born and raised in Maryland and went to college within the University of Maryland system. For the 11 months prior to moving to Maine however, I was living in Lyon, France.
Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?
I’m still very new to the area, but so far, I’ve enjoyed the Eastern Trail, the Portland Head Light, and the beautiful Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. On a past visit last fall, I kayaked on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, and that was lovely.
What three traits define you?
I have a strong sense of values, I enjoy trying new things, and I love plants (indoor and outdoor!)
What was your very first job and what did you learn from it?
My first job was in high school working at a mall food court Sbarro. I certainly gained more respect for the people that worked long hours there and in similar jobs.
What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?
I love variety and visual thinking. Design, both in planning and graphics is something I really enjoy. Finding solutions that positively affect people and the environment – that puts a smile on my face.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
I originally pursued a career in graphic design, then pivoted to Landscape Architecture as a way of meshing my interests in design and horticulture.
What are your hobbies outside the office?
I enjoy interior design, collecting houseplants (sometimes rare), gardening, checking out local events and expositions, and exploring the outdoors (hiking, canoeing, kayaking). I’m also keeping up with House of the Dragon and Rings of Power and will be rooting for the US and France during this years’ World Cup.
What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?
Sebago Technics has an excellent corporate culture, and a wide range of expertise. It’s a place where I’m excited to grow my skills with a great community of people.
If you had to eat one dish, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Vegan chili!
What’s your favorite animal, and why?
I love stags. Kings of the temperate forest – beautiful animals.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
I’d love to spend some time exploring the temperate rainforests of Tongass in Alaska.
Favorite Holiday and why?
Halloween! Love coming up with a costume and hanging out with friends. Cozy spooky fun times. Can’t beat that.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I’m a dual citizen Franco-American, and I do speak French. Vive la republique!
