Jeff Pollard, EI joined Sebago Technics in August of 2020. Mr. Pollard was an intern with Sebago in the summer of 2019 and is a graduate from UMaine with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jeff is a member of a design team within the Project Delivery Group at Sebago. He focuses on the technical aspects of site design, including complex grading, treatment and control of stormwater, utility layout, and roadway design.
How many years of experience do you have as an engineer and where did you graduate from?
I have 1.5 years of experience, and I graduated from The University of Maine in 2020.
When/how did you discover that you wanted to become a civil engineer?
I discovered that I wanted to become a civil engineer during my junior year of high school. When researching types of engineers for a school project, I found the idea of designing infrastructure that people use and see every day to be most interesting and rewarding.
What do you like most about the work you do?
My favorite part about the work I do is that each project is always unique. There is never one correct way to approach a project, and no site is ever the same. Each project will present its own challenges, and not every engineer will find the same solution these challenges.
What is your favorite/most notable project and why?
The most notable project I have had a role in designing is The Edge in Berwick. This is the largest scale project I have been a part of and it will have a huge impact on shaping the future direction for the Town of Berwick. This project was also named Sebago Technics’ Project of Year for 2021, based on votes by our employee-owners.
When you think about working at Sebago Technics, what makes you proudest or most excited?
Sebago Technics plays a huge role in site design throughout all of Southern Maine, so there is a great sense of pride that comes with shaping the communities we live in and experience every day.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming an engineer?
Think carefully about what type of engineer best suits your personality and interests. There are numerous careers with “engineer” in the title; however, the day-to-day lifestyle varies greatly between the different fields and companies.
