It is our pleasure to announce Maria Morris has joined Sebago Technics as GIS Specialist. Maria recently graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Master’s Degree in Geoinformation Technology and Cartography. She studied remote sensing, geospatial data infrastructures, geomatics, topographic modeling, and cartographic design. She participated in projects in Site Suitability Mapping, Building a Land Information System, and Creating Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) from UAV Imagery. The subject of her thesis was “Spatial Multi-Criteria Decision Making for Dam Removal Prioritization in Maine”. She also has a degree in Environmental Studies from Vassar College where she analyzed Soil Suitability for Reforestation and Solar Suitability.
Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived in throughout your life?
I grew up in Cape Elizabeth, lived in Poughkeepsie for college, in Amsterdam for a semester, and in New York City for two summers, and still came back home to Maine—it’s the best!
Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?
Monhegan and Carrabassett Valley for vacations, or any day exploring Casco Bay.
What three traits define you?
Loyal, Outgoing, and uh what’s a nice way to say ‘Nutty’ ?
What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?
Lemonade stand—publicly donating a percentage of profits increases over-all sales.
What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?
Promoting the work and success of others.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
Not anything I would have imagined! Trial and error, but I think I’ve got it down pat now.
What are your hobbies outside the office?
Beading and silver-smithing, exercise, reading, skiing, and disc golf.
What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?
The company’s reputable character and ethos.
Favorite thing to do in Maine?
Be outside.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Almond milk iced latte and a bomb diggity croissant.
Top three life highlights?
Living in Amsterdam, my first scuba-diving trip, and the whole past year has been pretty fantastic with finishing grad school and starting at Sebago!
Do you have a hidden talent? If so, tell us about it!
Singing, I’m sure you’ll catch me sometime.
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
A rock hyrax- their social structure is modeled as ‘the friend of my friend is my friend’.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Buenos Aires and Patagonia.
Favorite Holiday and why?
Christmas – spending time with family and friends.
What is the best concert you attended?
Umphrey’s Mcgee in West Virginia at Resonance Music and Arts Festival.

I’ve never eaten a lobster!
What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?
Visiting the beach with plenty of snacks, skiing, and hiking any of ME’s amazing trails.
