We are delighted to welcome back Caitlyn Abbott, who rejoins Sebago Technics as Project Delivery Coordinator. She has more than 11 years of experience in civil engineering and project management roles across both public and private sectors. She brings strong regulatory insight to the firm, having most recently worked at the City of Portland Department of Public Works in her roles as Project Engineer/Manager.
When Caitlyn isn’t in the office, you’ll find her jumping in the ocean on the weekdays and heading to the mountain(s) on the weekends with her friends and family.
Welcome back Caitlyn! It’s wonderful to have you with us!
Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived in throughout your life?
I was born and raised in Portland, Maine. Other than attending Syracuse University in New York for four years, as well as a few months here and there for work assignments, I have lived in Maine my entire life.
Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?
My happy place is Carrabassett Valley/Sugarloaf Mountain.
What three traits define you?
Goal-Oriented, Resilient, Adventurous.
What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?
Mowing lawns when I was 15 years old. But my first W-4 came from Foot Locker in the Maine Mall. I worked there through high school and learned a ton about customer service. I bet I can guess your shoe size too.
What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?
Collaboration. I love working with others (co-workers, partners, and clients) toward a common goal. I think it’s pretty neat to be a part of shaping Maine’s future as well!
What was your journey like to get where you are?
I learned pretty quickly that Aerospace Engineering wasn’t for me. On day two of college at Syracuse University I switched my major to Civil Engineering and never looked back. I’ve worked for smaller, local companies, a large corporate company, Maine’s largest municipality, and all of those experiences led me back here to Sebago Technics where I couldn’t be happier to re-join the team.
What are your hobbies outside the office?
Snowboarding is my true passion, skiing (alpine and cross-country), mountain biking, surfing, hiking, recreational sports, gardening (though my thumb is only a quarter green), adventures with my pup and family, and traveling with my friends and husband outside of the country each year.
What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?
The people, the culture, the product. The environment is like no other. There is so much collaboration with constant communication, teamwork and cultivating of partnerships. I have always admired and appreciated how much Sebago invests in the growth of each employee-owner. There is so much focus on achievement of our personal, professional and company goals through the success created for our clients and partners. I’m excited to be back with the Sebago team in a new role to help continue the successful delivery of high-quality, responsive services.
Favorite thing to do in Maine?
Jump in the ocean on the weekdays and head to the mountain(s) on the weekends.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Anything noodles.
Top three life highlights?
Marrying my best friend/adventure partner, catching the best wave of my life in Hawaii, adopting our dog.
Do you have a hidden talent? If so, tell us about it!
I can do the worm.
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
Not a worm. I would be a Bald Eagle. They’re fearless (probably because they don’t get hunted by other animals or people). They have incredible vision. And, who doesn’t want to be able to fly? Plus, I love sashimi.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Drive the coast of Portugal in a campervan with surfboards and bikes, then hop on a plane and go snowboarding in Austria!
Favorite Holiday and why?
Thanksgiving! My family and our close family friends spend it up at Sugarloaf together every year. It’s usually the first opportunity to scratch the itch to get back on the mountain (and see who gets the least amount of chunks taken out of their skis on the one trail that’s open).
What is the best concert you attended?
In the Listening Room of a local establishment where my husband, dad and close friends all played a show together. It was the first and only time I’ve seen my husband play/sing on stage.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I can play Space Oddity on the piano. And any other song with intermediate level sheet music.
What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?
High fiving after an awesome bike adventure, sitting around campfires, a soccer match on the beach with my niblings (nieces and nephews), “[having] friends on a powder day”, exploring and learning from one another.
When you think about working at Sebago Technics, what makes you proudest or most excited?
Happy clients. I truly believe Sebago delivers the best product around and I have always been very proud to be a part of that.
