We are excited to welcome Margo Barajas to the Sebago Technics team as a Landscape Designer! Her passion for gardening and her sociable and curious nature makes her a perfect fit for our team. Not only is she talented at designing beautiful outdoor spaces, but she also enjoys tending to her own garden, playing video games, and spending quality time at the beach with her furry companion. We are looking forward to the amazing projects she will be a part of, and her ability to combine creativity and technical skills in her work. Let’s give her a warm welcome!
Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived throughout your life?
I grew up in Scarborough, went to Boston for my undergraduate years, and spent 4 years in Oregon while getting my master’s degree.
Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?
Any beach, any time of year. My dog and I really enjoy Willard Beach.
What three traits define you?
Sociable, curious, and caring.
What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?
I was a camp counselor at a summer camp. I learned that I didn’t want a job that involved watching kids all day.
What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?
Having the ability to be creative and technical… and the overlap of those daily.
What was your journey like to get where you are?
Non-linear. I have a BS in journalism and majored in photojournalism. In addition to working as a camp counselor, I also worked as a waitress, bank teller, bookkeeper, office manager, salesperson, farmer, grocery store clerk, barista, and photographer.
What are your hobbies outside the office?
Gardening (vegetables, cut flowers, fruit trees). Videogames. When it’s not the season for one, I gravitate toward the other. I also like learning how to improve and fix things around my house.
What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?
I wanted to work for a larger company with more people and opportunities. The people here were all incredibly kind and compassionate about their work and the company. I wanted to be a part of that.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Assuming we’re not concerned about nutritional balance… mac n’ cheese.
Top three life highlights?
Moving to Oregon, buying a house, completing my licensure exams.
Do you have a hidden talent? If so, tell us about it!
I have my forklift operator certification. Watch out.
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
A fish – I love being in the water.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Hawaii! It’s one of the last states I haven’t been to – Alaska, North Dakota, and Oklahoma are the other ones (listed in order of desire to travel to).
Favorite Holiday and why?
Memorial Day… it’s the weekend my husband and I plant our vegetable garden every year.
What is the best concert you attended?
Lady Gaga at Fenway last summer.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I am surprisingly awesome at Fortnite.
What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?
Walking on the beach, boating in Casco Bay, and BBQing. It’s a great day if you can do them all.
When you think about working at Sebago Technics, what makes you proudest or most excited?
I’m excited by the wealth of knowledge that is available to me within reach of my desk and I am proud to be a part of such a hard-working group of employee-owners!
